<h4 style="color: #738493; font-size: 1.4em; line-height: 1; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 1em;">
<div style="color: #999999; font-size: 1.2em; font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.3em; margin-top: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
Xavi's dream of making his official debut with the first team squad came true when he played in the Spanish Super Cup against Mallorca in the summer of 1998. He couldn’t have hoped for a better start, for not only was he in the starting line up, but he also scored. Xavi also played an important role in the league-winning season of 1998-99 with Van Gaal as manager, most notably with an important goal in the Nuevo Zorrilla, which turned round the team's fortunes.</div>
<div style="color: #999999; font-size: 1.2em; font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.3em; margin-top: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
He was soon being hailed as the new Pep Guardiola as central organiser in the team, first as temporary replacement for his injured future manager, and later on a permanent basis following Guardiola’s departure to Italy. With Van Gaal, Rexach, Antic, Rijkaard and Guardiola in charge of the team, Xavi has always been a key member of the team - a fact made clear by the 300 official games he completed whilst still only 25 years old.</div>
<div style="color: #999999; font-size: 1.2em; font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.3em; margin-top: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
With Rijkaard, Xavi showed that he can not only play at the heart of midfield, but is also more than able to cover any position in the centre of the park, an ability reflected in the fact that he was the most used player in the League winning 2004-05 season, playing 36 games in all.</div>
<div style="color: #999999; font-size: 1.2em; font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.3em; margin-top: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
Xavi will never forget 2 December 2005. While training at La Masía, the midfielder tore ligaments in his left knee. His recovery was swifter than expected and within five months he was playing again. On 29 April 2006 against Cadiz, Xavi once again "felt like a footballer". He was back in time to celebrate the League and Champions League titles with his team-mates.</div>
<div style="color: #999999; font-size: 1.2em; font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.3em; margin-top: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
In the last two seasons with Frank Rijkaard in the <span style="font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 1.3em;">dugout, Xavi was one of the players most used by the Dutch manager.</span></div>
<div style="color: #999999; font-size: 1.2em; font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.3em; margin-top: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
When Guardiola took over, Xavi Hernández became a more prolific goalscorer than ever. He beat his own record when he got 10 goals in 54 games, and in Iniesta found his ideal complement in the FCB midfield. The duo formed the central axis of the treble winning season, and further excelled as Barça collected all six major trophies in one year. Xavi led the team to Liga victory in the 2009/10 season with an astonishing 99 points, and was named third best player in the world for 2009.</div>
<div style="color: #999999; font-size: 1.2em; font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.3em; margin-top: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
Since 2010/11, the midfielder has been building on what is always a record number of appearances for the club. On January 2, 2011, in the 2-1 win over Levante, Xavi equalled Migueli’s record of 549 games in a Barça shirt, and in 2010/11 also equalled the record shared by Ramallets and Guardiola for winning the league six times with the club. He was also named third in the Ballon d’Or awards for the second and third time in 2010 and 2011.</div>
<div style="color: #999999; font-size: 1.2em; font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.3em; margin-top: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
On January 15, 2012 at home to Betis, Xavi made it 400 Liga appearances, and celebrated by scoring his tenth goal of the season, thus equally his personal best set in 08/09. Xavi later took that tally up to 14 as his amazing understanding of the game spearheaded the team towards a series of new honours: the Spanish Supercup, the European Supercup, the Clubs World Cup and the Copa del Rey. It was he who made it 2-0 against Santos in Japan and ensure that the club could yet again stake its claim to being the best in the world.</div>
<div style="color: #999999; font-size: 1.2em; font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.3em; margin-top: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
Naturally, Xavi Hernández has also been one of the stars of the outstanding Spain of recent years, having appeared at three World Cups (2002, 2006 and 2010) and three European Championships (2004, 2008 and 2012), and being named man of the tournament when Spain won the Euros in 2008, the same year he was named fifth best player in the world by FIFA.</div>
<div style="color: #999999; font-size: 1.2em; font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.3em; margin-top: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
Xavi finally got his hands on the coveted World Cup trophy in 2010, all that was missing for him to be declared one of the greatest midfielders the game has ever known. Regarded as one of the finest passers of the ball in football, at that tournament he won an award in recognition of that.</div>

<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 16px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">With 23 titles so far in his professional career, Xavi has won more titles than any other Spanish player, overtaking the legendary Paco Gento</span><br style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;" /><br style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;" /><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 16px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">In his first seven seasons, he managed to win just two titles.</span><br />

The Euro 2012 title won last weekend means that <a href="http://www.fcbarcelona.com/football/first-team/staff/players/xavi/biography" style="color: #31608d; font-size: 1em; font-weight: bold; line-height: 1; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">Xavi</a> has now lifted more trophies than any other Spanish player -23- one more than the legendary Paco Gento and his fellow Barça teammate Iniesta.</div>
<div style="color: #343434; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<strong style="font-size: 1em; line-height: 1; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">41 years later</strong></div>
<div style="color: #343434; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
The ex-Madrid star Gento had held the record for 41 years, but the Barça playmaker has now overtaken him and at 32, <strong style="font-size: 1em; line-height: 1; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">he’s still hungry for more titles next season under Tito Villanova</strong>.</div>
<div style="color: #343434; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<strong style="font-size: 1em; line-height: 1; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">20 with Barça, 3 with Spain</strong></div>
<div style="color: #343434; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
Xavi Hernández has won<strong style="font-size: 1em; line-height: 1; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"> 8 different titles</strong>: 6 league championships, 3 Champions Leagues, 2 Spanish Cups, 2 Spanish Super Cups, 5 European Super Cups and 2 World Club Cups with Barça, as well as two European Championships and the 2010 World Cup with the Spanish national team. That total of 23 titles confirms his place amongst the game’s greats.</div>
<div style="color: #343434; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
The figures are even more impressive considering that during his first seven years at the Club, he won just two trophies and it wasn’t until Frank Rijkaard took over that he really began to collect those winners medals.</div>
<div style="color: #343434; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<strong style="font-size: 1em; line-height: 1; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">14 of 19 in the last four years</strong></div>
<div style="color: #343434; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
Xavi was key part of Pep Guardiola’s all conquering team and under him he won<strong style="font-size: 1em; line-height: 1; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"> 14 of the 19 possible titles</strong> and cemented his place as Spain’s most successful footballer of all time.</div>

<br />
<div class="first" style="font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
"I'm not strong, nor fast, nor skilful, I'm a player from the street," said Spain's Xavi Hernandez, football's most intelligent player and its best talker this weekend. "Without my team-mates, without space, I am nothing."</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
Xavi's said similar before, usually to deflect the praise which is lauded on him globally, but there was little false modesty on his part. He knows what he's good at: controlling the tempo of the match, passing the ball frequently with accuracy, ideally to team-mates in a more threatening position. He does it better than anyone, the master of teams which dominate, the product of a system which started with the Dutch Total Football system and was enshrined by Johann Cruyff at Barça.</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
"We all live in the present but Xavi actually lives in the future," purred Brazilian full-back Dani Alves when asked about his team-mate. "That's how he sees things the way he does. He shows that the little smart guys can play great."</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
Josep Guardiola was the finest exponent of Barça's Cruyffism until Xavi came along. "There's the man who will retire me," said Guardiola upon seeing a young Xavi. He was half right, but Xavi's role has changed from the famed number four position once occupied by Guardiola.</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
Xavi was a very good Barça player until 2005, the year he ruptured his cruciate ligament, but he didn't trouble the game's top individual honours. He'd made his European debut for Barca in 1998 at Old Trafford, but his profile didn't really rise in Britain until he ran the show in Spain's win over England at the Bernabéu in 2004. Afterwards, <em>AS</em> had claimed that "Xavi did things worthy of Maradona. What a work-rate, what dynamism, what vision, what leadership, what a midfield player!"</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
Still, when I offered an interview with him to one British magazine in 2005, the answer came back that he wasn't high profile enough. Their loss. There's no shortage of people wanting interviews with him now and it's no surprise because he's the most fascinating man in football, a fan with an anorak streak who became a player. I bet he could name 15 of the Premier League stadiums, bet he could name Everton or Fulham's usual starting XI. When he's finished at the Euros, he's spending his month off running his own football school.</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
Arthur Hopcroft's seminal 60s book 'The Football Man' could have been name after Xavi, though maybe the 'The Total Football Man' would have been more appropriate given the Dutch influence in his game.</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
Xavi's rise to being football's best passer since Platini came when he changed positions in 2007 under Frank Rijkaard. His coach suggested that he moved forward 20 metres in games and the difference was marked. It made better use of his creativity, vision and superb reflexes and with Yaya Toure, Seydou Keita or later Sergio Busquets behind, Xavi scored 13 leagues goals in 07-08 and 08-09. In the previous two seasons he'd scored three in total.</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
"People who didn't really see my overall game before started to see me set goals up and even score some," Xavi said when I interviewed him at the end of 2009, a year in which Barça won all six trophies they entered. That interview was supposed to last 15 minutes. It went on for 45 minutes as he wanted to talk and talk about football, to ask questions about English football to fill his many gaps. It was where he said that he loved watching Matt Le Tissier play. Le Tissier was so flattered that he showed the magazine to all his mates and then had a t-shirt made saying: 'Xavi loves me'.</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
An increasing obsession with statistics in football to rival American sports showed his game in an even better light. He often makes more passes than any other player in the game. He wouldn't achieve such statistic playing outside the Barça or Spain team which plays to his strengths, but he's the perfect player for a system he's played in since he was 12.</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
For Spain against Ireland last week, Xavi and his perfect foil Iniesta made more passes (229) than the entire Irish team (217).</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
Passes don't win tournaments, but they help. Xavi's pass to Fernando Torres created the only goal in the Euro 2008 final, a tournament in which he was voted the best player.</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
Xavi has won the lot with club and country yet his appetite for football is undiminished. He's a straight talker who doesn't need PR, agents or advisors because his opinions don't need spinning or glossing. He's not outspoken, but if he has a point to make it he won't hold back. I've only seen him flustered twice, once when Almeria put two men on him in a league game, seemingly with instructions to hack at him — and whenever a journalist asked him if his international career is coming to a close at 32. If there's one player who can play for as long as he physically can then it's the player who still lives in his hometown of Terrassa, however unfashionable it may be. He owns and rents out hundreds of properties in Terrassa.</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
Xavi's played 112 times for Spain, more than any other outfield player in the country. This season, he surpassed legendary Barça defender Migueli to become the Catalans all-time appearance holder. He's played 690 times for Barca and given that his game relies more on quickness of mind rather than physical speed, he could do as he intends - play and play through 700 and 800 games, maybe more.</div>

<div style="font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
For now, Xavi's concentration is on helping Spain win Sunday's quarter-final clash against France, while the French hope to prevent the street footballer with a line in self-depreciation from dominating affairs as he so often does.</div>

<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Xavi has spent all his footballing life at FC Barcelona, Barcelona entered the field in July 1991, when he was only 11 years.His progress was rapid and always in season 97-98 he moved up from youth to the B team, where he became the brains of Jordi Gonzalvo team which won promotion to the second division</span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Xavi's dream of making his official debut with the first team squad came in the summer of 1998, played in the Spanish Super Cup against Majorca. He was in the starting lineup and scored: a better debut he could. Xavi also played an important role in the achievement of the season 1998-99 with Van Gaal as manager, with a goal in the Nuevo Zorrilla, which turned the reaction of the team.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white;">The 1999-2000 season was a good one for Xavi as due to the injury to Guardiola he was the '4 'for a large part of the campaign. After the departure of then captain left for Italian football he became the organizer of the club game.</span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Both with Van Gaal as with Rexach, Old, Rijkaard or Guardiola on the bench, Xavi has always been a mainstay of the club. Proof of his role in the club game in recent seasons is that in 25 years, Xavier has already reached the figure of 300 matches for the club.</span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white;">With the arrival of coach, player of the Terrace was combining his position in midfield and played with the same reliability of any of the spinal cord. For this was one of the most used by players to get the 2004-05 season because he participated in 36 games.</span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Xavi will always remember December 2, 2005. While training at the farmhouse, the midfielder made a gesture hurt his right knee and tore the ligaments. Recovered earlier than expected and within five months he was playing again. On 29 April 2006 against Cadiz, Xavi once again play and arrived in time to celebrate the league and Champions League team.</span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white;">In the last two seasons with Frank Rijkaard, Xavi continued to accumulate a lot of games and was one of the players used by the Dutchman. In 2007-08, also achieved a personal goal scorer and scored 7 goals in the league for much of his best on that until then had been that had marked the 4 seasons in 2001-02 and 2003 -04.</span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
